| I was fortunate to get to take a trip up to Louisville on the Memorial Day holiday and visit Churchhill Downs for a "bee-U-tee-full" day of horse racing! I've always loved horse-racing, watching all of the Triple Crown events on television all my life and then watching every racing event that was shown on major television. I went with a friend who has been a long-time racing fan, and is an excellent handicapper and who is patient enough to attempt to teach me the game of handicapping the races. We have been to several and it is my hope to get to go to many more! For the record ..... I'm NOT a gambler! I never have been one to part with my money very easily, so gambling isn't the game for me. The game for me is looking at the information about the horses, their past races, and based upon the horses' past performances, choose the horse that I feel will come out as one of the top finishers of the race. The knowledge and satisfaction of being RIGHT about those decisions is enough for me. I needn't wager my money on the winner for that satisfaction to be there. (laffs) I know most people who are gamblers can't understand that, but it is enough for me, and I'm just happy working to figure out the puzzle and playing the game! With that said, I love the excitement of the race! Watching the horses in the paddock, then in the post parade, trying to determine which one looks most ready to take the lead! Watching the horses load into the gate, hearing the gates clang shut and the bell signaling "They're OFF!"
It was just a TON of fun for me -- being outdoors, working each individual race by the past performance numbers, watching the race unfold, examining the winners afterward and discussing the potential reasons for their win and then moving on to the next race to do it all again! It was a very long, full, FUN day! And NOW -- I have a mouse in my kitchen that needs dealing with! I saw the little critter do a running skid around the corner of the wall leading to the washer and dryer -- but honestly, I think he brought a posse!! I keep hearing noises in the kitchen, even after I stomped bruises on my feet trying to scare them away! Time to get out the trusty old Victor traps (even though I've had two of them out, and the rascal has cleaned out both of them!) Now that he's been spotted, I'm gunning for BEAR tonight! Sweet sleep to everyone .... until next time!

Don't know what time it is, I've been up for way too long and I'm too tired to sleep I called my mother on the phone, she wasn't home, and now I'm wandering the street I've been a fool, I've been cruel to myself I've been hanging onto nothing when nothing could be worse than hanging on And something tells me there must be something better than all this I've fallen many times in love and every time it's been with the wrong man Still I'm out there living one day at a time and doing the best I can Cuz we've all made mistakes that seem to lead us astray But every time they helped to get us where we are today And that's a good a place as any and it's probably where we're best off anyway It's a long and rugged road and we don't know where it's headed But we know it's going to get us where we're going And when we find what we're looking for we'll drop these bags and search no more 'Cuz it's going to feel like heaven when we're home It's going to feel like heaven when we're home There's no such thing as perfect, and if there is we'll fnd it when we're good and dead Trust me I've been looking but tonight I think I'll go and take a bath instead And then maybe I'll walk a while and feel the earth beneath me They say if you stop looking it doesn't matter if you find it And whose to say that even if I did it's what I'm really looking for It's a long and rugged road and we don't know where it's headed But we know it's going to get us where we're going And when we find what we're looking for we'll drop these bags and search no more 'Cuz it's going to feel like heaven when we're home It's going to feel like heaven when we're home
| If you'll look under my photos, I have uploaded a GREAT many photos of the over 500 we took while we were in Aruba in Spring of 2005. I have no clue what I was doing; I tried to create a photo album with all the pictures in it, and then I think they are just there in my photos too! Perhaps you more experienced Xanganians can give me some advice on this photo thing! In any case, I hope you might find something to enjoy there, as we certainly did! | | |
| UGH! Today was my first day back to the routine after my 9 days of vacation, which were so busy themselves it didn't seem as if I had much of a vacation! I'm so very grateful that my car is still plugging along and it faithfully got me home last evening -- I'm not sure yet what will be the story with it! I see the insurance adjuster tomorrow and will know more after that! I was so sad to have to leave my family! Aunt Becky and Uncle Marshall headed back to Florida yesterday morning -- but Aunt Becky called somewhere around Tifton, Georgia just to ask me if anyone had posted anymore to Xanga! Uncle Marshall had me looking up airports and real-time flight tracking online before they left and he exclaimed that he HAD to get him a computer, that they were just incredible!! I'm a bit apprehensive at the thought of turning Aunt Becky loose with a computer though! The world isn't ready for it! I barely got to see Abby at all. She and her mother spent the first part of the week in Gatlinburg with some friends from church, then once they got home, Abby had to spend the weekend with her dad. I guess I had less than 24 hours with her the entire week. NOT a doting, proud Aunt's idea of spring break with her niece! I did, however, get to attend Abby's soccer game on Saturday morning. Abby is learning how to play very well -- she is staying in her position, even though it is very frustrating to her when the play is across the field! She could still stand to be more aggressive at play -- digging in there and battling for the ball -- but she is, after all, an 8-year-old little girl who isn't all that enthused with getting kicked or scuffed or bashed with a hard, flying ball. She DID, however, get her socks dirty on Saturday -- We were so proud!
You'll have to forgive me if these pictures don't align very well -- I'm still learning this Xanga thing and I don't know how to move them! By the way, that's Angel standing there watching Abby. The camera never misses our BEST side! I read something about only being able to post 3 pictures with the free Xanga account -- I just skimmed the reading so I'm not sure if that was just for your profile or if that was included in the postings. They have given me a free trial of Xanga Premium, and I wonder if being able to post all these pictures in the blogs are part of that free premium trial?? Let me know if anyone out there knows for certain! The pictures may one day go "poof" but I'll share them as long as I can! Speaking of sharing one -- I told Aunt Becky I was going to post this one! We laughed for the longest time at Gracie, Ashlee's newest addition. She reminded us all of a little spider monkey, and at only 5 pounds, was a tiny bit of fluff! I just couldn't pass up the opportunity to snap a picture of Aunt Becky (we all know how she hates to have her picture taken!) and we laughed raucously at the "view" Gracie was posing for her!
I suppose I've said enough for this evening! I've got at least two runs of laundry waiting for me to wash and I'll be away tomorrow evening at at concert at the Ryman Auditorium in Nashville! I love live music! I'll check in again as soon as it's possible! Keep leaving those messages!! I love hearing from you all!!! Heaps of HUGGGGSSSSSSS!!!!!
| I've been trying for a couple of days to figure out how to get another message posted here -- and I suppose I'm just blonde enough for it to be WAY over my head! So now that I've finally found it ... perhaps I won't lose it again -- but I'm not banking on it! I also need help with some Xanga etiquette! I'm not sure where to post what! When someone leaves you a comment, do you post your response to their comment on YOUR page right after theirs or do you go to THEIR page and post your comment responding there to the comment they left you on your page? If you're lost after that question, don't feel alone! I wrote it and am as lost as last year's Easter egg! Perhaps, though, that has nothing to do with the question!! That could, once again, be because I'm just blonde enough! I hope one of you more experienced Xanganians can help me! | | |
